Superman: Terror on the Midway (1942)

FAQ

Superman: Terror on the Midway

See: this FAQ entry for Superman (1941)

Yes--though tampered is probably the wrong word. Even while the long-lost 35mm prints of other Max Fleischer Superman cartoons were turning up, a muddy 16mm print was the only one available for Terror on the Midway. Worse, the first several seconds seemed to be missing, including the title sequence and the opening pan along the circus grounds. On videos and DVDs these few seconds are recreated with the original soundtrack and still frames.

But now a complete print with bright colors--presumably a 35mm print--has turned up on YouTube. See the entry "Watch this film online" below.

Note that the sound designs for all the Fleischer Superman cartoons have been tampered with. See the entry "Are the sound effects new?" below.

The unaltered Superman cartoons with their original sound are available on an expensive and out-of-print DVD release from Image Entertainment called The Superman Cartoons of Max and Dave Fleischer (1998) (V). Note that even this excellent DVD has an incomplete print of Terror on the Midway.
