Barbara Pepper appears in the publicity material and lobby cards, seemingly she was intended for one of the leading roles, but was re-cast.
One of the best shorts featuring Curly Howard's dance ability. This he dances to a samba.
The rumba music played in the scene in the prison while people are dancing is entitled "Brazilian Cotillion", a song introduced in the 1941 Columbia movie "Blondie Goes Latin".
The inclusion of actresses Barbara Pepper and Marjorie Deanne in cast listings for this short is based on an assumption that they were intended to be cast in the film, or did appear but had their roles edited out of the final release print. This is due to their names appearing on the title lobby card for the short. But this could also have been an error in the printing of the lobby card. The two actresses did also appear in another Columbia short filmed just before "Three Smart Saps", the Harry Langdon short "Carry Harry", so there could have been some confusion during the printing of the display material resulting in their names appearing on the wrong card.
After Curly jumps through the wrong window frame, he crashes into an egg display. When he gets up, an egg is stuck on his nose and he does a Jimmy Durante impression when he says, "I got a million of them. Am I mortified! Ach-cha-cha-cha-cha."
