Dr. Elwyn Clayton, the devil-worhipping twin brother of mild-mannered town doctor Lloyd Clayton (both played by George Zucco), returns from the dead as a vampire searching for revenge against his murderer.
Dead Men Walk is an original story and screenplay by American screenwriter Fred Myton.
While David (Nedrick Young) stays behind to keep watch over Gayle (Mary Carlisle), Dr Lloyd heads over to Elwyn's house to search for his coffin. Elwyn's assistant, Zolarr (Dwight Frye) attempts to stop Dr Lloyd by fending him off with a poker but succeeds only in knocking over a heavy podium on himself, pinning him to the floor. Elwyn returns to his house and struggles with his brother. They knock over a candle, catching the curtains on fire. Meanwhile, the townfolk head over to Dr Lloyd's house looking for him. Not finding him at home, they wait, until David gets the idea of turning out the lights and running out the door while everyone else tries to feel their way around in the dark. As the cock crows, David races over to Elwyn's house, the townfolk not far behind him. Everyone reaches Elwyn's house just in time to see the firey walls collapse on both brothers and Zolarr. In the final scene, the minister addresses those mourning over the loss of Dr Lloyd but assures them that he is in a better place.
