Suggested by a true incident that occurred in 1942 when eight Nazi saboteurs were put ashore on the coast of Long Island, New York, by submarine, with orders to blow up various defense installations. They were caught, tried and several were executed.
The actors who play Papa and Mama Steelman (Ludwig Stossel and Elsa Janssen) played Papa and Mama Gehrig in The Pride of the Yankees (1942) the year before. They later played Elisha Cook Jr.'s parents in Dillinger (1945).
U-159 is depicted as dispatching the 4 saboteurs when in fact the actual submarine was U-202.
