In the French version, Jean Gabin, although French himself, is dubbed by Robert Dalban.
Jean Gabin's second American film after "Moontide", since France had been taken over by Nazis during WW2. After this movie he'd return to France and continue his career there until his death decades later.
It is speculated that the author of the original story sold the rights to two different companies, as this 1943 Universal film is similar in several significant ways to the later 1944 Warners film, "Uncertain Glory".
