One of the few Tom & Jerry cartoons in which Tom speaks.
The prewar opulence of New York City is beautifully drawn here, down to Jerry's residence at 1/2 Park Avenue. The actual One Park Avenue, in midtown Manhattan, is a refurbished turn of the 19th century building that has been renovated into luxury residences.
The one million dollars that Tom inherited in 1944 would be worth just over 16 million in 2022 dollars.
Tom's human mistress is not named in the telegram, only addressed as "Madam."
Wartime cinema audiences would have appreciated the silly slapstick, despite several instances where Tom and Jerry don't exactly obey the expected behaviors of the day: (gas rationing, unnecessary travel, consuming opulent food dishes using rationed items, including bacon, eggs and coffee).
