Paul Langton, Frances Rafferty, and Friday in The Hidden Eye (1945)

Trivia

The Hidden Eye

Edit
The little black terrier who distracts seeing eye dog Friday in the scene where a truck nearly runs over Edward Arnold is one of the most famous canines in cinema history. Six years earlier, he had portrayed Toto in The Wizard of Oz.
This was the second film in what was meant to be a mystery franchise focused on blind detective "Mac" Maclain (Edward Arnold) who solved murders with the help of his gifted seeing eye dog, Friday. When this entry failed to elicit sufficient interest to justify making another film, M-G-M abandoned the series.
Broke convention by revealing the killer's identity immediately following the crime. This twist would become the novelty of "Columbo" on television several decades later.
Maclain's stated fee of $25,000 for solving the case would equate to almost $350,000 in 2018.
No doubt due to the reduced budget, Leigh Whipper replaces Mantan Moreland as Mac's butler, Alistair, while William "Bill" Phipps takes over from Allen Jenkins as Mac's sidekick, Marty.
