The only Hanna & Barbera short that won an Academy Award and featured Spike Bulldog along with Tom Cat and Jerry Mouse.
The scene where Jerry throws light bulbs as bombs and they burst loudly is a reference to Pablo Picasso's painting "Guernica."
This short was shown on VHS before National Velvet (1944).
Again, great attention to every little detail here, as was the norm in the golden age of animation. And Tom is portrayed as more like a real cat, with whiskers, plump fine paws, and real claws.
