The film within this animated short, " To Have - To Have - To Have - To Have - To Have - ... " is a parody of of To Have and Have Not (1944). The "Cast Off Characters" of its leads are named Bogey Gocart and Laurie Bee Cool and spoof the To Have and Have Not (1944) leads' star names of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. The Bacall name is also parodied in this cartoon's title, Bacall to Arms (1946), which is a play on the familiar military term, "A Call to Arms" which itself had been a film title many times prior to this cartoon short [See: The Call to Arms! (1900); The Call to Arms (1902); The Call to Arms (1910); The Call to Arms (1913) [aka In Love and War (1913)]; A Call to Arms Against War (1915) [aka The Battle Cry of Peace (1915)]; The Call to Arms (1917) [aka Her Country's Call (1917)]; and A Call to Arms (1918).
