Spike, The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer dog, was listed as "Killer", in this short, but with the same person, Billy Bletcher's voice.
This is the first Tom and Jerry cartoon to have a 1946-1952 MGM opening title with a red background.
Tom romances Killer (mistakenly) in a Charles Boyer-type voice. Pepe Le Pew, the Parisian skunk, would later speak like this in WB cartoons.
Tom looks much more feline in these early shorts. He sports whiskers, claws, and flashes his teeth. He also runs on all fours in some shots, as a real cat does. Later versions modernized him into a caricature of a cat.
