- Charlie Davis: Get yourself a new boy. I retire.
- Roberts: What makes you think you can get away with this?
- Charlie Davis: What are you gonna do? Kill me? Everybody dies.
- Charlie Davis: Get out of here! Get out of here!
- Miss Tedder: We have to ask questions if we're going to help.
- Charlie Davis: We don't want any help. Tell them we're dead. We don't want any help!
- [slams the door]
- Fight Announcer: I've never seen anything like it before in my life. A great silence has descended over this crowd. They seem to sense the kill. There's fear in Marlowe's eyes as Davis looks for an opening.
- Fight Announcer: Davis is following Marlowe around the ring now like a tiger stalking his prey.
- Anna Davis: I did it to buy myself fancy clothes? Fool! It's for you! To learn, to get an education, to make something of yourself!
- Charlie Davis: [yelling to Shorty] Shorty! Shorty, get me that fight from Quinn. I want money. Do you understand? Money, money!
- Anna Davis: I forbid, I forbid. Better buy a gun and shoot yourself.
- Charlie Davis: You need MONEY to buy a gun!
- Charlie Davis: I don't want any handouts. Do you think I like waiting around for the whole world to make up its mind what to do with me? My mother don't understand.
- Peg Born: What is it you want to do?
- Charlie Davis: There's only one thing I know how to do. Fight.
- Peg Born: Well if you want to fight, fight.
- Charlie Davis: And it's all right with you?
- Peg Born: Anything you want is all right with me. I love you, Charlie.
- Charlie Davis: [makes a fist] It'll be quick.
- Peg Born: Tiger, tiger.
