In June 1947, the film was shown in the British Parliament to members of the House of Lords and House of Commons. This was an attempt to persuade them to allow employment of child actors under the age of 12.
Helen Grieve, who played the part of Helen, became so fond of the stallion she rode that she bought the horse after filming was completed.
Neza Saunders, who played the part of Neza, was chosen from 500 boys who auditioned for the part in Queensland. This was Saunders' first trip into civilization.
The 1983 re-make marked the film debut of Nicole Kidman.
