Maureen O'Sullivan, Robert Taylor, Edward Arnold, William Gargan, and Frank Morgan in The Crowd Roars (1938)

Trivia

The Crowd Roars

Edit
Robert Taylor has more bare-chest scenes here than in any of his other movies. Successfully resisting the usual waxing forced upon other hairy chested gentlemen of his era, he compromised by accepting a modest manicure.
According to Robert Taylor's biographers, his mother walked out in the middle of this movie, upset by all the punishment her son was apparently receiving during the boxing scenes. She asked her son why stand-ins couldn't have been used.
Victor Fleming directed two retake scenes in July 1938 because Richard Thorpe already had been assigned to direct another production.
This film was first telecast in Los Angeles Monday 4 March 1957 on KTTV (Channel 11); in Chicago it first aired 9 April 1957 on WBBM (Channel 2), in Seattle 15 May 1957 on KING (Channel 5), in Cincinnati 23 May 1957 on WXIX (Channel 19) (Newport KY), in Portland OR 27 May 1957 on KGW (Channel 8), in Hartford CT 31 May 1957 on WHCT (Channel 18), in New York City 15 June 1957 on WCBS (Channel 2), in Honolulu 22 June 1957 on KHVH (Channel 13), in Philadelphia 8 July 1957 on WFIL (Channel 6), in Altoona PA 5 August 1957 on WFBG (Channel 10), in Minneapolis 23 October 1957 on KMGM (Channel 9) and in San Francisco 2 March 1958 on KGO (Channel 7).
Some cast members in studio records/casting call lists did not appear or were not identifiable in the movie . These were (with their character names, if any): Leona Roberts (Laura McCoy), Mickey Rentschler (Jim McCoy), Charles Williams (Brady), Charles Sullivan (Chief timekeeper), Roger Moore (Cain's chauffeur), Lee Phelps (Bartender), Jack Pennick and Joe Caits. Leona Roberts was apparently replaced by Emma Dunn, who was listed in a news report as a cast member.
