This film was re-made as The Dark Past (1948). It starred Lee J. Cobb as the psychiatrist and William Holden as the killer.
By 1939 the Production Code wouldn't allow filmmakers to show the gun being fired or the victims being shot.

The opening night cast included George Coulouris as Dr. Shelby and Roy Hargrave as Hal Wilson. Also in the cast were Jay Adler, Lloyd Barry, Ruth Fallows, Mabel Montgomery, James Truex and Katherine Warren.
Early in the film, the campus building depicted behind Dr. Shelby is Royce Hall, a distinctive landmark on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles.
