This short is included as a bonus on the Warner DVD of Dodge City (1939).
The opening of this short states that the first Americans were oppressed Europeans who came to the new world in search of liberty and that these people of many races and many creeds dedicated their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to the creation of a free America. This is very similar to the last sentence of the Declaration of Independence: "And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honour."

It was while doing historical research for "Captain Blood" that producer Gordon Hollingshead got the idea to produce a series of historical shorts for Warner Bros. He produced many, including "Sons of Liberty" over the next several years, many in Technicolor.
