Richard Carlson and Ann Sheridan in Winter Carnival (1939)

Trivia

Winter Carnival

Edit
Budd Schulberg was also fired from the film with F. Scott Fitzgerald. It all started with two bottles of champagne that Budd's father, B.P. Schulberg, the former head of Paramount (1925-32), had given to Budd and Fitzgerald as a bon voyage gift at the train station in Los Angeles as they headed East to Dartmouth, Budd's alma mater. He did not know that Fitzgerald was a struggling alcoholic.
F. Scott Fitzgerald, originally assigned to write the picture, was dismissed in a humiliating scene in front of the Hanover Inn during the 1939 Carnival.
This was one of two dozen Walter Wanger/Harry Sherman/Cinema Guild films originally released by United Artists, re-released theatrically in 1948 by Masterpiece Productions, and ultimately sold by them for USA television syndication in 1950. It was first telecast in Albuquerque Tuesday 16 May 1950 on KOB (Channel 4), in Phoenix Wednesday 24 May 1950 on KPHO (Channel 5), in New York City Saturday 10 June 1950 on WCBS (Channel 2), in both Los Angeles and Detroit Sunday 11 June 1950 on KTLA (Channel 5) and on WXYZ (Channel 7), in Cincinnati Saturday 29 July 1950 on WKRC (Channel 11), in Chicago Sunday 20 August 1950 on WENR (Channel 7), in Boston Sunday 27 August 1950 on WNAC (Channel 7), in Philadelphia Saturday 23 September 1950 on WFIL (Channel 6), in San Francisco Saturday 2 December 1950 on KGO (Channel 7), and in Pittsburgh Friday 8 December 1950 on WDTV (Channel 3),.
Budd Schulberg's 1950 novel "The Disenchanted" is loosely based on his troubled experiences when partnered with F. Scott Fitzgerald to write this screenplay, in particular their disastrous trip to Dartmouth's WInter Carnival to gather background color.
Film of debut Virginia Gilmore, who was playing the role of "Margie Stafford."
