Edit
Based on the play "The Butter and Egg Man" by George S. Kaufman which opened on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre, 220 W. 48th St., on September 23, 1925 and ran for 243 performances. The opening night cast included Tom Fadden, Robert Middlemass and Harry Stubbs. This is the fifth of six film adaptations of the play released from 1928 to 1953.
Jane Wyman and Ronald Reagan play husband and wife in this film, and were in real life at the time, having just been married on January 26, 1940, less that two weeks before filming began.
About 25 minutes into the movie, Ronald Reagan, Wayne Morris and Eddie Albert are sitting at a table at a bar when Ronald Reagan and Wayne Morris talk about different plays and movies, one of which is, "Brother Rat"! All three of these guys were in the movie "Brother Rat". Along with Jane Wyman, who is married to Ronald Reagan's character in the movie.
Two cast members in studio records/casting call lists did not appear or were not identifiable in the movie. These were (with their character names): Dudley Dickerson (Black Man) and Eddie Acuff (Stagehand).
