The biopic Frances (1982), in which Jessica Lange portrays Frances Farmer, depicts the makers of this film teaching Farmer a lesson by forcing her to do over a dozen takes of a scene in which her character falls into a pile of mud.
The convertible Frances Farmer drives is a 1936 Chevrolet Standard. Only 3,629 were made at a base price of $595 ($12,500 in 2022). In excellent condition, an example of this car could be worth $36,000 or more in 2022.
John Garfield lobbied to have Frances Farmer as his co-star. Farmer later admitted the two were having an affair during the making of this film.
While at the drilling site (just under an hour in), Johnny is talking to Linda, saying that they have yet to swab out the well, after which oil will start flowing. "Swabbing" refers to a step in drilling oil whereby fluids that are used in the fracturing process are removed, thus releasing the pressure at the bottom of the well hole and allowing oil to travel out. Swabbing is performed by using a separate rig that has specialized hardware that is inserted into the hole.
