The first of four films for Kay Francis in 1941, which would be the last year of a tremendous run for her. From 1930 through 1941 she starred in at least three films per year, despite being labeled as box office poison by the Hollywood Reporter in 1938. From 1942 until she retired from acting in 1951 she would make just six films and two television appearances.
Tom gets out of a railroad boxcar marked "T&NO" - which stands for the Texas and New Orleans Railroad. It was a subsidiary of Southern Pacific at the time of this film and was completely absorbed by SP in 1961.
According to a contemporary article in The Hollywood Reporter, Sheila Ryan and Elyse Knox were tested for the role of Ellen, before RKO borrowed Mildred Coles from Warner Bros. for the part.
Josie reminds Grace her hotel room in Miami costs $100 per day. That amount equates to about $1,950 in 2021.
The $50,000 check from Bill would equate to over $950,000 in 2021.
