Worm's Eye View started life as a play

Worm's Eye View started life as a play. It opened at the King's Theatre in Hammersmith 23rd April, 1945 before transferring to The Whitehall Theatre on 18th December (Parker: Who's Who in the Theatre"). The story goes that early in the run, attendances were so poor one of the backers offered his share for £100. It developed into one of London's longest runs at the time. It was about conscripted aircraftsmen billeted in civilian digs. Ronald Shiner was the sergeant and there was a fearsome landlady. The characters were very cleverly drawn, much the same as those in Dad's Army and were to be found in any service unit.
