The movie was given the 1953 Best Film award by Secretariado Nacional da Informação (SNI), the official branch of the government for communication and arts. Emilio Correia won the 1953 Best Actor award.
The Army Minister and the Overseas Minister, with top brass civil and military personnel, were shown an advanced version of the movie in its post-production phase, at the Cinelândia studios. According to the press, all guests liked the film - that has four military consultants in its credits.
The film was given a special exhibition certificate rating for people aged 13, while the official ratings at the time were 12 and 17. The government wanted that most children would see the movie, but the violence content was dimmed too much.
