- [sees a baby bird chirping in a nest outside the window]
- Professor Owl: Ah, yes! The subject for today is melody!
- Bernie Birdbrain: A "malady"? Uh, like when you get sick?
- Professor Owl: No!
- Students: [singing] M-E-L-O-D-Y, melody! The subject for today will be a melody!
- Professor Owl: Now let us fly to nature and lend an ear to the multitude of musical sounds we hear.
- Bernie Birdbrain: [his dunce cap is covering his whole body] I don't hear nothin'.
- [the professor pops the dunce cap off Bernie's body and puts it back on his head]
- Bernie Birdbrain: Gosh, heh heh, that's better.
- Male singer: Oh, we sing about the moon...
- Female singer: We sing about the rain...
- Male singer: We sing about steamboats...
- Male singer, Female singer: And we sing about planes.
- Bernie Birdbrain: We sing about beauty.
- Professor Owl: But the fact remains that we never...
- Penelope Pinfeather: No, we never, ever sing about brains!

- Professor Owl: Is everybody here?
- Students: [singing] Yes, teacher!
- Professor Owl: Suzy Sparrow?
- Suzy Sparrow: [singing] Here, teacher.
- Professor Owl: Bernie Birdbrain?
- Bernie Birdbrain: Here, teacher.
- Professor Owl: The Canary Sisters?
- The Canary Sisters: [harmonizing] Here... Here... Here... Here!
- Professor Owl: Penelope Pinfeather?
- Suzy Sparrow: [operatically] He-e-e-e-e-e-ere...
- [Professor Owl closes her beak before she can continue showing off]
- Students: [singing] Here, here, here, here, here, here, here!
- Little Bird: [bass voice] Here.
- Professor Owl: Now, students, in conclusion, I wish to point out that beautiful symphonies are often created from simple melodies like "The Bird and the Cricket and the Willow Tree".
- Professor Owl: Now, of all the creatures on this Earth, only two species can sing. Us, heh heh heh, birds, and this animal called "homo sapien".
