    Columbo DNA?

This is one more example of what B movies from time to time can bring. I recently commented STRANGE MRS CRANE, another unusual and brilliant scheme of a murderer woman who was in a jury for a trial concerning the crime she commited and for which another woman was accused of. The story is different here but as tense, unusual, brilliant, full of suspense. Bill Beaudine, the Hollywood vet, who was famous during the silent era, is guilty of this little gem. I was delighted to watch it and could not prevent myself to think about Columbo during the viewing. You know who the assassin is in the first place and then you wait and see how the cop will nail him....

After evidence which proves the husband did not murder his wife is produced in court, the husband's attorney asks the Judge to dismiss the case. The 5th Amendment to the Constitution states "... nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb ...". This prevents a person from being tried again for the same offence after being found not guilty. A dismissal is not a determination of not guilty. Even if the Judge entered a finding of not guilty, the husband could be tried again for a different offence - that of conspiracy to commit the murder of his wife.
