  • Father Slocum: Listen to me, Vincent... you can't keep on killing and killing.
  • Vincent Canelli: No? Just watch me.
  • [in the warehouse, Father Slocum can be seen with a pen and paper as Canelli is staring intensely at him]
  • Vincent Canelli: Now let's get the letter started.
  • Father Slocum: No, I won't be a party to it.
  • Vincent Canelli: Now, don't push, Father. Your collar isn't gonna protect you.
  • Father Slocum: I'm protected, Vincent. The only kind of protection that's worthwhile.
  • Vincent Canelli: A 38 will change that quick enough.
  • Father Slocum: Only for those afraid to die.
  • [in the warehouse, Father Slocum can be seen in the midst of a standoff with Vincent Canelli, the latter who is staring intensely at him. As the standoff continues, Hatti Combest can be seen approaching and putting her hand on Canelli's shoulder]
  • Hatti Combest: Vince, Vince, don't. Not a priest. Anybody can write the note. Any of us. It's the same thing
  • [Canelli shoves Hatti as he continues starring at Father Slocum]
  • Vincent Canelli: You're not scared of dying?
  • Father Slocum: [shakes his head] No, Vincent. I'm not.
  • Vincent Canelli: All right, let's find out.
  • [Canelli reaches into his coat and begins to pull out a gun. Seconds later, one of the hostages charges at Canneli and grabs hold of him. However, Canelli quickly overpowers him and knocks him to the floor. He then shoots him and injures him for good measure]
  • [during the midst of the standoff in the warehouse, Vincent Canelli can be seen threatening Father Slocum]
  • Vincent Canelli: Okay, Slocum. You're elected.
  • Father Slocum: A little while ago, I thought there was something in you worth saving, worth praying for. But there isn't. There isn't one decent impulse in your twisted mind.
  • [Canelli glares as he pulls out a gun and points at Slocum, who remains unintimidated]
  • Father Slocum: That's your kind of courage.
  • [Slocum stares directly at Canelli]
  • Father Slocum: Get it over with.
  • [at the warehouse, Vincent Canelli and his girlfriend, Hatti Combest watch as an injured Peter Manning is brought in. Among the ones supervising is Father Slocum. Upon seeing the priest, Hatti looks worried]
  • Father Slocum: Over here please.
  • Hatti Combest: Shouldn't have brought the priest, Vince. It's bad luck.
  • Vincent Canelli: Yeah, for him.
  • [in the cell block, the Prison Warden can be seen speaking with Vincent Canelli. Also present is Father Slocum]
  • Prison Warden: Your warrant reads the same, Canelli.
  • Vincent Canelli: I want the full treatment. Read it. It's the law, isn't it?
  • Father Slocum: There isn't too much time left, Vincent. I'd hoped you'd spend it with me.
  • Vincent Canelli: Now, you keep out of this father.
  • [Canelli looks at the warden]
  • Vincent Canelli: Go ahead, Warden. Full treatment.
  • [in the cell block, Vincent Canelli can be about to be taken to his execution. Father Slocum is also present]
  • Vincent Canelli: Find yourself another boy, Father.
  • Father Slocum: All right, Vincent. But if you want me, I'll be there.
  • [following his escape, Vince Canelli has abandoned a few convicts he took with him. Before leaving, he gives them a gun and three bullets]
  • Father Slocum: No, Vincent. They'll use that gun to kill innocent people.
  • Vincent Canelli: Well, that's how it goes some days, Father. They keep the cops busy, and that gives us some more time. That's what I need now, Time, two-hundred grand.
  • [in the storage warehouse. Father Slocum can be seen approaching Vincent Canelli after the latter has obtained his money]
  • Father Slocum: May I talk to you, Vincent?
  • Vincent Canelli: I'm not in a buying mood, Father.
