It's a Dog's Life

The importance of cats in horror cinema
Mark Harrison Oct 31, 2017

Want to enhance your horror movie? Make sure you sign up a cat...

This feature contains broad spoilers for several horror movies featuring cats, including Alien, Cat People, Drag Me To Hell, Fallen, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, Pet Sematary and The Voices.

The relationship between humans and cats over time has given way to a number of cultural impressions and outright superstitions. Ancient Egyptians associated them with gods. In the Middle Ages, they were linked with witches and killed en masse, which probably hastened the spread of the Black Plague through the rodent population. And in the modern day, it's interchangeably lucky or not if a black cat crosses your path.

Like anything with such a wide array of symbolic links, movies have presented cats as characters in different ways over the years. It's their abiding association with the supernatural – whether as an omen...

'Fifty Shades of Grey' Trailer -- Hardcore Bdsm Crowd Left Limp
The first trailer for mommy porn "Fifty Shades of Grey" might be exciting some lonely fans -- but serious BDSMers aren't ready to peg the movie for success ... because to them it kinda looks like amateur hour in the ole dungeon.Don't ask how, but TMZ got in tight with some members of the Threshold Society -- a Bdsm/leather club in L.A. -- and they say overall reaction to the trailer is ... where's the good stuff?...

Courtney Stodden Goes Short, Braless And See-Through
Courtney Stodden
Courtney Stodden's latest look has us scratching our heads (and running for safety).

The 18-year-old teen bride-turned-reality TV star made quite the style choice as she stepped out in a strapless and see-through fishnet "dress" for Plastic Martyr's Birthday Bash at Bar Sinister in Hollywood over the weekend. And Stodden obviously wasn't worried about everyone getting a glimpse at her surgically enhanced chest, donning pasties instead of a bra. She also slipped into a lacy black thong, which could be seen right through her risque frock.

Stodden topped off her look with a vinyl hat, lace-up ankle boots and a crucifix necklace. Plus her arm candy was, of course, her 53-year-old husband, Doug Hutchison, who wore an all-black ensemble including eyeliner.

Stodden took to Twitter on July 6 to announce her plans, despite being underage.

Clubbing it up tonight :) what are You doing? Xx

Finished at 27? Ha! You've got 10 years left, girls | Barbara Ellen
Why do we demonise women for putting their career before having a family?

I've been amusing myself thinking up a blurb for a Chinese dating site.

"Are you a 'leftover' woman? Old! Rotting! Disgusting! Left on the side of the plate of romance. Your destiny, like all other leftovers, to be scraped straight into the bin of life or fed to the pigs… We have the man for you!"

As employed by the All-China Women's Federation website, "leftover women" (sheng nu) is a term for educated, moneyed, professional females still single at 27. Sometimes, these hideous hags are given until 30, but that's deemed to be pushing it.

"Leftovers" shame their families and horrify the Chinese government, which needs them married, so that single men won't cause "social havoc" and to mop up the surplus of males (20 million more) born after 1979's one-child rule, when selective abortions were endemic.

After many complaints,...
