A good crime movie about a heist with elements of social drama

I enjoyed watching "Banktresor 713" (Bank Safe 713) because of three reasons. The first reason was that for me it was a good crime movie about a heist that kept me interested until the end. The second reason was the well-delineated elements of the social drama of Berlin in the 1950s. Herbert (Martin Held) and Klaus (Hardy Kruger) were not professional criminals, and their environment and psychological portrait were presented convincingly for me. I watched with interest the streets of Berlin and the interiors of the houses of the 1950s, with satisfaction in seeing that life was already returning to normal and people were thinking about relationships with other people, education, work, or getting rich. The third reason was the good acting of the main and supporting actors, which made the whole story convincing for me. Personally, I prefer even simple but true-to-life crime stories to complicated mysteries. An additional advantage was the presence of Hardy Kruger, whom I saw for the first time in his memorable role in "The Flight of the Phoenix" from 1965 with James Stewart and a whole international galaxy of stars. From this film I also remember Kruger's response to Stewart's bantering remark regarding World War II, in which Kruger replied that he wasn't involved in that war. I come from Poland, and I also believe that our post-war generation is here to make our contemporary world better and not to dwell on what happened in the past.

The steps leading down into the sewer are towards the street, so they had to dig on the opposite side to reach the cellar. But they actually dig on the same side where the steps are, away from the cellar.
