When Dev Anand gave Guru Dutt a break as director to make Baazi and then also Jaal, Guru Dutt had promised to Dev that when he turns producer he will take Dev to star in his production and Guru Dutt kept his promise, he produced C.I.D. and took Dev Anand as the main hero. Then Guru Dutt also gave his assistant Raj Khosla a break to direct C.I.D. but sadly Guru Dutt dint get a chance to direct Dev Anand. Few months before Guru Dutt sudden death, he wanted to make a film with Dev Anand in colour.
Guru Dutt had spotted Waheeda Rehman in the dance number
of a Telugu film which he saw in Hyderabad. He called her to Bombay
and after a screen test okayed her but asked her to change her name
for films which she stoutly refused.C.I.D was meant to be a quickie
and so he did not want to spend much on it.He roped in Dev Anand to
play the hero. But when Dev heared that he WOULD NOT SING ANY SONGS in
the film he was aghast. One of the conditions which Dev put forward
before signing any film was that he would sing at least half a dozen
songs. He pleaded and begged but Raj Khosla said it would look stupid
and unrealastic if a C.I.D inspector sings.Dev argued that the college
public would be disappointed and the movie would flop but Raj would
not relent even though Guru Dutt himself saw that Dev's arguement was
valid. Finally Dev was given a few lines more precisely the mukhda
of "Aankhon hi Aankhon main" and the matter resolved
Waheeda Rehman"s first movie, she was introduced in this movie.
Actor Mehmood was seen in this film in a small negative role.
In C.I.D. There is a scene in which Dev Anand is interrogating Mehmood that he should say who instructed him to kill the magazine editor. Then then the constables come take Mehmood and put him in a lockup and there are 2 villians and they kill the killer so he should not say who is his boss end here Dev Anand is trapped. K.N.Singh plays the head of police.24 years later the same director Raj Khosla repeats it in Dostana.chraractor actor Sajan plays Mehmood"s role and Amitabh Bachchan is trapped and K.N.Singh plays the Judge.
