Quotes

The Killer Is Loose

Edit
  • Detective Sam Wagner: Could've been worse, Poole.
  • Leon Poole: It was worse, remember? I remember.
  • Detective Chris Gillespie: Poole, we tried to explain.
  • Leon Poole: Someday, Wagner, I'm gonna settle with you for it. I'm certainly gonna settle with you for it.
  • [at a saving and loans company, a man with glasses can be seen behind a counter. This is Leon Poole. At some point, another man approaches the counter from the other side. This is Otto Flanders. Poole looks at a piece of paper that was handed to him]
  • Leon Poole: Ah, another new home owner. Holly Road. City's spreading out, isn't it?
  • Otto Flanders: [smiles] Sure is, Corporal.
  • [Flanders removes the glasses he's wearing]
  • Otto Flanders: Tell me... you still love your old Sergeant?
  • Leon Poole: Sergeant Flanders, I didn't recognize you.
  • Otto Flanders: That's what ten or eleven years does for you. But I knew you the minute I saw you. You know what I almost called you?
  • Leon Poole: Foggy?
  • Otto Flanders: [smiles] Corporal Foggy, the jungle killer. I guess I started it, didn't I? Then everybody picked it up. Even the island boys, they'd say: "Corporal Foggy, he get lost again, he forgot his rifle." Remember that?
  • Leon Poole: Yes, I remember.
  • [Poole finishes the work he's performing]
  • Leon Poole: Well, it was nice seeing you again, Sergeant.
  • Otto Flanders: [smiles again] Now, cut the Sergeant stuff. The name is Otto.
  • [a police detective can be seen investigating a crime scene. This is Sam Wagner. As he's investigating, Leon Poole can be seen entering the room. Sam looks up and notices him]
  • Detective Sam Wagner: Reach your wife all right?
  • Leon Poole: Yes, thank you. I'm afraid she might have heard about it on the radio or something, she worries a lot.
  • Detective Sam Wagner: Sit down.
  • Leon Poole: [proceeds to sit] Thank you.
  • Detective Sam Wagner: You suppose wives enjoy that, Mr. Poole?
  • [Poole appears confused]
  • Detective Sam Wagner: The worrying I mean. I'm just breaking into this marriage business.
  • Leon Poole: All I can say is I've been married for five years and my wife still worries about me.
  • Detective Sam Wagner: That's very discouraging.
  • Leon Poole: Oh, I don't know, I kind of like it.
  • [first lines]
  • [as the film starts, a man can be seen inside a savings and loan business. He is shown working behind a counter. This is Leon Poole. Present is a woman he is working with, this is Mrs. Andrews]
  • Leon Poole: Thank you very much, Mrs. Andrews.
  • Mrs. Andrews: I'm really terrible sorry about this, Mr. Poole.
  • Leon Poole: Those notices are just a matter of routine.
  • Mrs. Andrews: [laughs] The payment just slipped my mind, I, I can't imagine how it happened.
  • Leon Poole: Don't let it worry you, it can happen to any of us.
  • [Poole hands Mrs. Andrews a few papers before she turns and begins to head for the door]
  • Mrs. Andrews: Thank you, Mr. Poole. Thanks a lot.
  • Leon Poole: [nods and smiles] You're welcome.
  • [last lines]
  • [Leon Poole has just been shot dead in the front yard of Sam Wagner's house. Sam can be seen coming out side and approaching his wife, Lila, who he begins to embrace]
  • Lila Wagner: Sam...
  • Detective Sam Wagner: It's all right, darling.
  • [Sam and Lila continue to embrace before heading inside. As this happens, a few policemen and various others arrive and begin viewing Poole's body as it lies in the front yard. This continues until fadeout...]
  • [following the robbery at the savings and loan company, Otto Flanders can be seen trying to assist Leon Poole, who apparently tried to foil the heist]
  • Otto Flanders: You know something, Foggy? I'm going to stop kidding you. I take it all back.
  • [Poole looks at Flanders as he rubs his head in an attempt to recover]
  • [Sam Wagner can be seen at his home when a knock can heard on the front door. He goes to open it, and upon opening it, is greeted by the sight of Denny]
  • Detective Sam Wagner: Well, good morning, up kind of early, aren't you?
  • Denny: Yes, so are you. Are we gonna stand out here and drown or you gonna ask us in for a cup of coffee?
  • Detective Sam Wagner: [smiles] Come in.
  • [Denny laughs and enters the house]
