Final film of Maria Ouspenskaya before her death on December 3 1949 from a stroke following burns sustained in a house fire.
David Niven's concert tour is slated to begin at the Hollywood Bowl. At the time of the film, performances at the Bowl had been delighting audiences over 25 years, since it opened in 1922. In 2022, it will celebrate its centennial.
Broderick Crawford had a stellar year in 1949. Besides his hilariously over the top portrayal of Botts here, he starred in "All the King's Men," for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, in addition to that picture's top Oscar win.
The poem that Willoughby quotes from when he first meets Phillips is "Old Ironsides" by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.
"The Screen Guild Theater" broadcast a 30 minute radio adaptation of the movie on October 27, 1949 with David Niven and Jane Wyman reprising their film roles.
