Joan Leslie was originally considered for the Marilyn Miller role before June Haver was cast.
This was not the first time Rosemary DeCamp portrayed the mother of a famous Broadway personality. In Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) she portrayed the mother of George M. Cohan, and in Rhapsody in Blue (1945) she portrayed George Gershwin's mother.
Final film of actress Lillian Yarbo. She plays the uncredited character named "Violet."
[Look for the Silver Lining (1949) is an American biographical musical film directed by David Butler and written by Phoebe Ephron, Henry Ephron and Marian Spitzer. The film starred June Haver, Ray Bolger, Gordon MacRae, Charles Ruggles and Rosemary DeCamp. The film is a fictionalized biography of Broadway singer-dancer Marilyn Miller.
Look for the Silver Lining (1949) opened at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 23, 1949 together with a Fourth of July pageant. It grossed $142,000 in its opening week. In its sixth week of release, it grossed over $370,000 and was the number one film in the United States. It returned to number one two weeks later.
