Trivia

Hard, Fast and Beautiful!

Edit
At the 34-minute mark, Florence is playing a match in Seabright, New Jersey. In the crowd, Robert Ryan and director Ida Lupino (both uncredited) are shown applauding her.
Eleanor Tennant, who is credited as a technical advisor for this film coached Sally Forrest on her tennis scenes. Tennant was the first female tennis player to become a professional and was runner-up in doubles at the 1920 U.S. Championships. She also coached numerous Hollywood stars, including Clark Gable and Carole Lombard.
Based on the 1930 novel "American Girl" by John R. Tunis, which is a fictionalized account of the life of Helen Wills, a top female tennis player of the 1920s and 1930s. She won 31 Grand Slam tournaments, including 19 singles titles, and 2 Gold Medals at the 1924 Olympics in Paris for singles and doubles.
Sally Forrest was borrowed from MGM for this picture.
Hairy-chested Robert Clarke was forced to undergo a complete body-waxing before appearing in his bare-chested scenes at the swimming pool.
