Norman Wisdom in There Was a Crooked Man (1960)

Trivia

There Was a Crooked Man

Edit
Withdrawn after its cinema release, allegedly after offending America for scenes in which Norman masquerades as an arrogant US general requisitioning British land for the US Air Force.
Scriptwriter Reuben Ship had been blacklisted in the United States for alleged communist ties.
One of two films Norman Wisdom made independently to extend his range away from his usual alter-ego of 'The Gump'.
At the time of the production of this film, the US dollar to British pound sterling exchange rate was 2.8. Thus the difference in the $1 million US versus £1 million talked about in the movie is substantial. $1 million US would have been worth £357,142.9. Conversely, £1 million would have been worth $2.8 million US.
This was Susannah York's second movie role. However, the film was released slightly earlier than her debut, "Tunes Of Glory," where she is officially "introduced" with a special credit.
