Set in Greece in the late 19th century; when it's reported that a revival of the Olympic Games will take place, the athletic shepherd Spiridon heads to Athens to enter the 26-mile marathon. Meanwhile, Lt. Alexi, the lover of the famed actress Eleni, also decides to enter the marathon, which prompts Eleni to announce that she'll marry the winner.
