Peppino De Filippo, Nadia Sanders, and Totò in Totò e Peppino divisi a Berlino (1962)

Trivia

Totò e Peppino divisi a Berlino

Edit
Italian censorship visa # 38135 delivered on 23-8-1962.
Last movie with the names of Totò and Peppino De Filippo appearing in the title.
The name of the war criminal for whom Antonio La Puzza ( Totò ) is mistaken is Attila Canarinis, clearly a parody of Wilhelm Canaris, a Nazi officer who took part to the failed attempt to kill Adolf Hitler in 1944.
The movie partially spoofs The Swindlers (1959) and Judgment at Nuremberg (1961). In particular the latter inspired the whole first part of the movie, up to the trial, where Totò spoofs the look of Burt Lancaster in the same scene of his movie.
Although being set in Berlin, the movie is entirely filmed in Rome, except from some archive footage. Originally, it was planned to do filming in Berlin, but Totò refused to leave because he considered the political situation too risky (the Berlin Wall had been built only some months before). The Brandendurg Gate was recreated at the Tor di Valle racecourse.
