The Skydivers (1963)

Trivia

The Skydivers

Edit
Featured on "Mystery Science Theater 3000."
According to "The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Amazing Colossal Episode Guide," staff writer Paul Chaplin claims that "when we first saw 'The Skydivers,' we believed it to be one of the worst movies we'd ever done. As it turns out, it's the best of the Coleman Francis trio of films."
On the door above the airfield office there is an elevation of 2750 ft. The only airport in California at that exact elevation was the Quartz Hill Airport in the region of Palmdale, California. Anthony Cardoza has confirmed that "Skydivers" was indeed filmed at this location. Pilots who actually used the field remember it for its two landing strips in an "X" formation and that the field was not level but had a noticeable dip in the middle--a feature that is apparent in the film. This airfield fell into disuse in the 1980s, and as of 2005, it and its environs are now almost completely covered by upper-middle-class tract housing.
The lake upon which Suzy and Harry, and later Suzy and Frankie, are seen boating (where a large dam is seen in the background) is Castaic Lake, California, approximately one hour's drive south of Quartz Hill Airfield.
According to Anthony Cardoza, the skydiving sequences were filmed over Lake Elsinore and Hemet, California. In some of the skydiving footage, Lake Elsinore can be seen in the distance.
