Later in the movie Richard Benson tells Gabrielle Simpson that he had to learn and unlearn Greek after he had an affair with a Greek actress and that afterwards he went to Spain. It clearly ties to the aforementioned text - so perhaps the Greek speech was subtitled in the original theatrical version.
