A VIRGIN FOR THE PRINCE is a fun swashbuckling/sex comedy starring two Italian stars at the top of their careers, Vittorio Gassman and Virna Lisi. The film is splendid to look at. A pageantry of amazing costumes and locations. With its two good-looking stars, the entire end effect of watch A VIRGIN FOR THE PRINCE is a sight to behold. Gassman is dashing. One can't take one's eyes off of him. He radiates amazing star quality and the fact that Gassman is virtually unknown outside of Italy or Europe is a total mystery. Gassman was like a combo of Cary Grant and Laurence Olivier. The camera loves him. Gassman also wears some of the greatest costumes a male actor has ever worn. But if that wasn't reason enough to watch, Virna Lisi appears halfway into the story and wow! the film stops dead in its track with her unreal beauty. The camera also loves Lisi. She makes today's starlets look like chopped-liver.
The story is silly but thankfully it never crosses line into the ridiculous. It just plays with the absurd premise with the right amount of farce and historical commentary. Never released on VHS or DVD, this film is hard to find and if you come across it, watch it. It's fun.
