- Gene Summers: A week tomorrow.
- Léonie: You are an optimist. If you go on behaving like this, there won't be any tomorrow. You won't just be snivelling to me, you'll be snivelling to the Gestapo. Things must be very bad when they send us a child to do a man's job. Did they tell you that your mission here was secret?
- Gene Summers: Yes.
- Léonie: Then why have you broken every rule of security by blabbing to me?
- Léonie: Himmler likes cats. Goering likes pictures. Hitler likes music. Goebbels is a wonderful father. What of it?
- Léonie: Murder? But this is war, war. And in a war the innocent and the guilty get killed together. When you were ordered to drop bombs over France, did you refuse because you might have killed innocent Frenchmen. Or women? Or children like yourself? Or cats? Or are you such a marksman that you can press a button and drop a bomb that will only kill Germans and collaborators? You didn't go whining back to your superior officers saying "I couldn't do it - there might have been a man in the marshalling yard who loved his mother."
- Gene Summers: Couldn't I just strangle him like this, with my thumbs?
- Naval Commander: Well, you could try, but I've found it takes absolutely hours.
- Léonie: It's not your business to sit in judgement on Lafitte - it's your business to kill him. Dozens of Frenchman have risked their lives receiving and guiding and hiding and clothing you, only to have you go to pieces because of a stinking cat which should've been carved up at eight months ago.
