Sergio Corbucci gave everything a go and this time he's telling us about Italy's lush lifers in the manner of black and white accusatory pieces like DOLCE VITA, NOTTE BRAVA and RIMPATRIATA.
With it's bright lighting, manicured juveniles and predictable characters this one looks like it's going to be totally synthetic but as the single day that contains the body of the film draws out, some suspense does develop. Well off low lifes Mattioli and Girolami lure a couple of girls into their flat on the pretext of giving them movie parts and ply them with booze - and then it goes wrong. Dweeb Manfredi is waiting downstairs talking to the door man.
Not a major film and none of the flamboyance for which we value Corbucci but not a write off either.
