After the series ended, the production company kept King because they thought they might do a spin-off with Velvet's little brother Donald and his Shetland pony Tiny. A pilot was shot, but it didn't sell.
In 1962, King and the rest of the horses from the series were sold to Bob Frisch, whose family owned the Bob's Big Boy restaurants.
Lori Martin did most of riding in the show, but for some of the big jumps, like water jumps and things, they used a double.
The horse King had a double named Chief, and you could hardly tell them apart.
Trainer Kenneth Lee took the horses and the Shetland pony to a children's home outside of Cincinnati for the owners, where he'd show off all their different tricks.
