The Mad Room (1969)

Trivia

The Mad Room

Edit
Stella Stevens said in a 1994 interview that she hated working with Shelly Winters in this film so much she swore she'd never work with her again. Winters had been under a lot of stress because Robert Kennedy was shot during the filming and she had a very bad reaction to it. She began soothing her nerves with white wine and was drunk most the time. A year later Stevens was cast in The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and soon found out Winters had been cast too. But it worked out. Winters wasn't drinking anymore and they got along fine.
Todd Rundgren's band The Nazz have two songs: Open My Eyes and Wildwood Blues from their debut album featured.
This loose remake of "Ladies In Retirement" updates the story from Victorian England to 1960s Canada, and makes the allegedly deranged siblings much younger than the housekeeper instead of much older; they also become a brother and sister instead of two sisters. Reportedly, director Bernard Girard was greatly displeased with the way the film was altered after he had finished with it, and his directing career never really recovered from its box-office failure.
Partially filmed on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
Beverly Garland was pregnant while filming her role. Her costumes were designed to hide it from the camera.
