The role of Miss La Creevy was offered to Dame Margaret Rutherford, who also rehearsed the part in her home in the presence of Ned Sherrin and Sir Anthony Hopkins. Having been ill for quite a while, she didn't manage to remember her lines though, and was therefore replaced.
