The story is set in the UK but only seven days of filming were done in the UK. The bulk of the movie was shot in Munich.
Jane Asher recalled that she and John Moulder-Brown would work over their scenes together in an attempt to colloquialise their dialogue to help convince audiences that they were genuinely in the UK. Some scenes were improvised by the actors, such as the "Defacing government property!" section, a line Asher herself contributed.
Rather than be worried about filming nude, Jane Asher was more concerned that she'd be able to hold her breath underwater for long enough.
The pool manager, Mike's father, the cinema manager and the street policeman are all dubbed by Robert Rietty.
