Producer Aaron Spelling wrote that he was so impressed with Inger Stevens that he decided to create a series for her, The Most Deadly Game (1970). After the pilot was filmed and sold to ABC, Burt Reynolds and Inger Stevens broke off their romance, and Stevens committed suicide a few days later. Stevens' role was recast with Yvette Mimieux and the pilot was reshot.
