Shintarô Katsu and Jimmy Wang Yu in Zatoichi and the One-Armed Swordsman (1971)

Trivia

Zatoichi and the One-Armed Swordsman

Edit
The first Zatoichi film made after the Daiei Motion Picture Company went bankrupt, and the Toho Company took over distribution of the films for the remainder of the decade.
Unlike many Hong Kong and Taiwanese films he performed in during the 1970s, this was the only film Jimmy Wang Yu's real voice can be heard from start to finish.
This is the twenty-second of 26 films to star Shintaro Katsu as Zatoichi.
The One-Armed Swordsman, Wang Kong, as portrayed by Jimmy Wang Yu, appeared in eighteen films prior to "Zatoichi Meets the One-Armed Swordsman". Conversely, Shintaro Katsu appeared in twenty-one films as Zatoichi, prior to this. This film marks a notable cinematic crossover of both a popular Japanese cinematic hero and a popular Chinese cinematic hero.
This is the second Zatoichi film to feature a character having their limbs cut off, and also the second Zatoichi film to make use of practical effects to show severed limbs on screen. The first was the fourteenth installment, "Zatoichi's Pilgrimage".
