The role of Weenie the Genie was originally slated to be played by pint-sized actor Billy Barty. As production neared, Barty became ill and was unable to appear, so the creators asked Billie Hayes to take the part.
This show wasn't as heavily merchandised as earlier and later Sid & Marty Krofft productions. Tie-ins included Halloween costumes (Hoodoo, Weenie and evil hat Mr. Big), a Lunchbox, a comic book series, a magic slate, and a coloring and activity book.
