This series ran from September 16, 1971 to August 10, 1972 (twenty-three episodes) on Thursdays, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. The ninety-minute pilot originally aired on February 23, 1971 under the "ABC Tuesday Movie of the Week" umbrella. The film was replayed on ABC on September 9, 1971.
Originally, Bruce Lee was only going to make one appearance in the show. Then writer Sterling Silliphant created further storylines for Bruce Lee to appear in.
In the credits we are told that the series was created by Stirling Silliphant "based upon characters created by Baynard Kendrick." That would be characters from his Duncan Maclain stories. Between 1937 and 1961, Kendrick wrote a series of novels about the blind private investigator Duncan Maclain, who solved crimes aided by his partner, his secretary, and a pair of specially trained German Shepherds.
