Based on the true story of Josef Otto Klems, a German soldier who later became Chief of Staff to Abd-el-Krim. Klems was eventually captured and shot for desertion in 1926.
Klems is renamed "El-Hadj Alemán", which means the German Pilgrim. Klems was not shot for desertion ..he was given a dishonorable discharge....he commited suicide in jail in 1926
Luciana Paluzzi stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Marisa Mell. Mell got out of her contract shortly before filming began citing personal reasons.
