    is really rather sad

I would have imagined the Jean Anouilh writing might have been more than I thought and is really rather sad. Also the cast you imagine would have been good but Mel Ferrer is rather terrible and the pretty Britt Ekland and Susan Hampshire could surely not look as awful. And then there is, the usually very good Philippe Noiret, he makes like an idiot and is very sad. I'm not sure if it is really the writing or the young director, Christopher Miles although what is good is the little glimpse we get of the streets of Paris.

    Plodding and dull

It would appear that, justifiably, this film is all but forgotten, this despite a dvd release some years ago.

This film was made during Hollywood's infatuation with British films. Unfortumately films such as this could not, unsurprisingly find an audience. So Hollywood pulled the plug and the British film industry was left in tatters.

It is a surprise to realise that the producer of this film,Hal Wallis, was responsible for the immortal classic, Casablanca.

Although the film has a reasonable cast, they can do little with the material.

The direction by Christopher Miles, brother of Sarah,is lethargic. Its running time on the DVD is 1 hour 39 minutes and is excessive.
