Winter Comes Early

Edit
Leafs defenceman Jim McKenny was the stand-in for Art Hindle in the long shots of game action.
A album titled "Face Off: The Original Soundtrack Recording" was also released. The album featured 12 tracks. Frank Moore, who plays Barney, wrote 6 songs. He and actress Trudi Young provide the lead vocals. The album is co-engineered by Moses Znaimer who would go on to co-create Citytv and MuchMusic, Canada's 24 hour music video station.
The movie follows Billy Duke and the Toronto Maple Leafs during a fictitious 1970-71 season. The real 70-71 Leafs finished 4th in their division but easily made the play-offs. The were defeated 4 games to 2 in the first round by the New York Rangers.
The fight scene with the L.A. Kings is footage taken from a brawl between the Leafs and Kings that happened January 23, 1971 following an altercation involving Toronto goaltender Jacques Plante and L.A. forwards Bill Flett and Ed Joyal. Both benches cleared, resulting in 52 minutes in penalties. The Kings would go on to win the game 3-2.
Kay Hawtrey's debut.
